Roof tent for Volkswagen Caddy

The Volkswagen Caddy is a practical base for a rooftop tent, especially because many standard Caddy and Caddy Maxi versions are listed with a 100 kg roof load when using an approved carrier system. That is enough on paper for any SNAILER hard-shell tent, provided the roof bars or platform are also rated correctly. The van body also gives a useful bar spread, which is helpful for a stable tent installation. The important exception is a converted Caddy, camper roof, roof cut-out or vehicle with special roof equipment, where the original 100 kg figure should not be reused automatically. Always confirm the exact limit for the vehicle and conversion, especially if the car has been modified or fitted with non-standard roof equipment.

A Caddy without longitudinal rails normally uses model-specific van bars fixed into the factory roof mounting points. A Caddy with raised roof rails uses raised-rail bars. For rooftop tent use, choose a Thule, Yakima or other van-rated system that is approved for the exact Caddy generation and wheelbase. Roof bars and fixing hardware on a van like the Caddy usually weigh around 6-7 kg, so check the tent and bar setup together. Universal roof bars from our range can also be used on Volkswagen Caddy and Caddy Maxi 2004-2020 with factory raised roof rails. For Caddy without roof rails, Caddy V from 2020 onward, roof-point systems and special conversions, we recommend an exact model-specific Thule, Yakima or van-rated carrier system instead.
