Roof tent for BMW 5 Series

The BMW 5 Series is built for long-distance comfort, and the Touring versions in particular can make a refined and practical base for rooftop-tent travel. Body style and generation are important. E60/E61, F10/F11 and G30/G31 versions are commonly listed at 100 kg roof load. F07 Gran Turismo, G60 5 Series Sedan and G60 i5 Sedan are listed at 75 kg, which is a normal starting point for a SNAILER rooftop tent with the correct approved carrier. G61 5 Series Touring and G61 i5 Touring return to a 100 kg roof-load figure. Older generations should be checked against their exact handbook.

Always confirm the exact 5 Series generation, Sedan, Touring or Gran Turismo body, roof equipment and roof-load value in the owner's manual/handbook or vehicle technical certificate, if it is listed there, before choosing a rooftop tent.

BMW E60 Sedan and E61 Touring without longitudinal rails use generation-specific normal-roof carrier systems, while E61 Touring with factory open rails needs raised-rail bars. F07 Gran Turismo, F10 Sedan, G30 Sedan and G60 Sedan/i5 use model-specific fixed-point carriers. F11 Touring, G31 Touring and G61 Touring/i5 Touring with factory flush rails need generation-specific flush-rail bar kits. Older E34 and E39 versions vary between normal roofs, fixed points and raised rails, so their exact body and roof must be identified first. Panoramic or sliding glass is not a mounting surface. Roof bars on a large sedan or Touring usually weigh around 5-6 kg, so check the complete setup - tent, bars and mounting hardware together.

For Sedan, Gran Turismo, older generations, M5 and modified-roof versions, use Thule, Yakima or another exact approved 5 Series-specific system.
