Roof tent for Volkswagen Amarok

The Volkswagen Amarok is a strong pickup for long-distance travel, work and overland-style camping, but the right tent setup depends on where the rack is mounted. First-generation Amarok fixed-point cab systems are commonly handled around 100 kg in rack sources, while some accessory rail kits can be lower. Amarok II from 2023 onward has several roof paths: no-rail cab roof bars can be around 80 kg, Ford/VW body guidance gives an 85 kg dynamic context, and some owner's manual/handbook sources mention 100 kg maximum roof load. For a SNAILER tent, a rated bed rack, canopy rack or hardtop platform is often the cleanest route if the accessory documentation supports the load. Always confirm the exact Amarok generation, cab roof type, rack rating, payload and static/dynamic limits before choosing a tent setup.

Amarok I 2010-2022 normally uses a fixed-point cab roof kit or fixed-point platform. Accessory longitudinal rails on Amarok I should be checked as a separate rail kit, because they may not carry the same load as a direct fixed-point rack. Amarok II from 2023 onward without rails needs an exact no-rail cab roof kit, while factory raised-rail versions need raised-rail bars or a rail-mounted platform. For rooftop tents, an Amarok bed rack, canopy rack, hardtop rack or tub platform is often the better option when rated for the tent. Roof bars on a pickup cab usually weigh around 5-6 kg, while bed/canopy racks can be heavier, so check the complete setup - tent, rack and mounting hardware together. Use Thule, Yakima or another approved Amarok-specific system.
