Roof tent for Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 is one of the best-known crossover SUVs for family travel and outdoor weekends, but its roof-load story is more complicated than the model's rugged image suggests. Older RAV4 generations can have low or conflicting roof-load figures: around 34 kg on 2000-2005 sources, around 46 kg on 2005-2012 sources, and mixed 46 kg versus 75 kg accessory information on 2013-2018 sources. RAV4 from 2019 onward is listed around 80 kg with an approved roof luggage carrier, which is the more realistic starting point for a modern tent setup, but still needs exact rack approval. Always confirm the exact generation, roof rails and roof-load value in the owner's manual/handbook or vehicle technical certificate, if it is listed there, before choosing a rooftop tent.

RAV4 2005-2012 and 2013-2018 with factory raised roof rails need raised-rail bars, but the lower or conflicting roof-load data means these older generations should be checked individually for rooftop tent use. RAV4 from 2019 onward with flush rails needs a model-specific factory, Thule, Yakima or similar flush-rail kit. 2019 onward Adventure/TRD-style raised-rail variants need raised-rail bars, while no-rail/base versions need a documented approved carrier before any tent recommendation. Roof bars on a compact SUV like the RAV4 usually weigh around 5-6 kg, so check the complete setup - tent, bars and mounting hardware together.
