Roof tent for Volkswagen Multivan

The Volkswagen Multivan is one of the most natural family camping bases in Europe, especially because it already sits close to the van and camper world. T5/T6/T6.1 fixed-roof versions are commonly handled around 100 kg with two base carriers and up to 150 kg where the Volkswagen/rack guidance allows more supports. California or camper pop-up roofs are a different case and are commonly around 50 kg, while T7 Multivan normal-roof versions are listed around 100 kg. That means a standard-roof Multivan can be a good SNAILER base, but camper roofs and special roof equipment need a separate check.

Always confirm the exact Multivan generation, fixed roof or pop-up roof, mounting points, track type, bar count and roof-load value in the owner's manual/handbook or vehicle technical certificate, if it is listed there, before choosing a rooftop tent.

Multivan T5/T6/T6.1 2003-2021 with fixed roof points or M6 roof points needs a model-specific fixed-point or van-point kit. T5/T6/T6.1 versions with a T-profile, California rail or accessory track need the correct T-track carrier, while visible raised rails should be used only if they are real load-bearing rails. California and camper pop-up roofs need pop-up-roof-approved carriers and are not the same as standard metal roofs. T7 Multivan 2021-2026 with factory mounting points needs a T7-specific fixed-point carrier. Van bars usually weigh around 6-7 kg and platforms can be heavier, so check the complete setup - tent, rack and mounting hardware together.
